Course Description

Fundamentals of visual perception and image processing; perceptual models and machine/deep learning techniques for image and video analysis, compression, quality evaluation, and understanding; content-based retrieval; machine/deep learning techniques for visual texture analysis and perception with applications to material identification and characterization.

Course Goals

To provide a thorough background in the fundamental principles and techniques in digital image and video processing, analysis, and compression, and how they can leverage machine learning techniques and models of human perception. To provide an overview of the current technologies and directions for future research.

This is a week-long intensive course (January 20-25, 2025) sponsored by SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration).
